Soleil Mannion

Soleil was born in the Netherlands and spent her formative years in Vancouver. She cultivated various techniques to her painting through her many travels and life on the Pacific Coast. She often uses colour to provoke imagination and emotional engagement with her art. Inspired by the intensity and commitment of the love a man felt for his wife in 101 Love Sonnets by Pablo Neruda, Soleil is painting 101 paintings of gratitude based on each of the sonnets. A selection of these works will be displayed in this exhibition. As Neruda feels about his beloved, Soleil feels about her painting; “without it, I would cease to be myself”. www.soleilmannion.ca

Kate Arkiletian

After completing a BFA in sculpture at the University of Waterloo in 1994, Kate was eager to expand from ceramic sculpture into functional work and went on to complete a Professional Diploma in Ceramics at the Centre de Ceramiques Bonsecours in Montreal in 1997. It was during her studies in Montreal that she discovered the art of sgraffito and fell in love with the possibilities of the carving technique.  She has been carving images and patterns into clay ever since and is currently an active member of the Burnaby Potter’s Guild.
