From Cates Park to Deep Cove

The Discovery Waterfront Walk starts at Cates Park between 10:30 and 11:30 am, and ends in Deep Cove. To return, participants can enjoy the FREE boat ride on the Ocean Watch water taxi back to Cates Park until 3:00 pm, or return by walking.

This moderate walk is approximately two hours over beach, road, and trails to reach Deep Cove. The tide needs to be considered if you return by walking later than 3:00 pm.

Please wear sturdy walking shoes and suitable clothing for the weather conditions. Don’t forget your water!

Enjoy your Father’s Day walk and cruise back to Cates Park!

The objective of the Discovery Waterfront Walk is to educate the public of the need for responsible stewardship of our shoreline. The day of the walk, participants sign-in at Cates Park and are provided a route map. Strathcona Park (3.1 km) is approximately half way, walkers turn around at this point and return to Cates Park, if they do not wish to complete the entire walk, which ends in Deep Cove.

North Vancouver Save Our Shores Society is a community group of volunteers dedicated to protecting, restoring and enhancing our North Vancouver District waterfront and foreshore. For a number of years SOS has been active as an advocacy group, pressing for the responsible stewardship of the shoreline by the District of North Vancouver (DNV) and Port Metro Vancouver (PMV).

Over the last one hundred years the inter-tidal zone has been subjected to significant stress and thoughtless abuse, to the extent that it is now difficult and sometimes impossible to access and walk the beach at any time close to the high-water mark. It is the desire of NVSOSS to seek the co-operation and help of all concerned to ensure that all people have free and unencumbered access to the beach for their enjoyment and wonder, now and for future generations.
