What do you get when you cross a quartet of traditional Chinese plucked instruments with a bluegrass band? On Friday May 2, 2008 at 8:00pm the Asian fiery foursome Red Chamber, led by zheng master Mei Han, challenges powerhouse pickers from the west The Jaybirds, led by mandolin guru John Reischman, in China Red Meets Bluegrass¬. This unlikely meeting of musical minds brings together the high-powered bluegrass melodies and melancholy folk tunes of The Jaybirds (recently nominated for a JUNO) with the furiously virtuosic style and gorgeous Chinese melodies of Red Chamber. www.mei-han.com/redchamber

Master of Fence
Master of Fence by Darien Edgeler, directed by Jim Hebb. Welcome to Master of Fence, and the wacky world of stage combat choreography, where cowboys brawl with school marms, sailors fend off attacks from vampire pirates, and directors go toe-to-toe with actors in order to negotiate contracts. The first person you need to meet is Sam, a struggling fight arranger. Sam is besieged on all sides: his business is floundering, his girlfriend has one foot out the door, and his partner is set on self-sabotage. Can Sam navigate the complex web of codes we live by and change his partner's mind? Can he save his studio, his relationship, and the day by auditioning successfully for the Shakespeare themed Folio Festival? Can he, in short, turn the tables and triumph? Come see this fisticuffs-filled free-for-all to find out!

Proposals
Proposals by Neil Simon, directed by Tim Cadeny. A charmingly nostalgic memory play Proposals recalls the summer of 1953 and the last time the Hines family gathered at their retreat in the Poconos. It's a summer of romantic entanglements, which intertwine the nine characters' lives one idyllic afternoon. Clemma, the family's housekeeper (and the story's narrator), dreads a visit from the husband who deserted her years before. Burt Hines, a recovering workaholic convalescing from a second heart attack, looks forward to the arrival of the ex-wife he still loves. Burt's daughter, Josie, has just broken her engagement to an intense Harvard law student and she pines for his buddy Ray, an aspiring writer with whom she once had a brief fling. Ray shows up with a strikingly dim-witted model on his arm, and a young Miami gangster with a gift for malapropisms brings comic hilarity to the gathering. As heartbreakingly honest as it is hilarious, Proposals enjoyed a highly successful 1997 Broadway run
