Imagine a dusty road with tumbleweed blowing by, two gunmen at the ready in a gritty yet darkly funny Quentin Tarantino duel and you will almost be able to hear the music of Dead Combo already. Invoking the soul of fado, the influence of spaghetti westerns and the post-modern irony of Nick Cave, Tó Trips and Pedro Gonçalves comprise this mesmerizing guitar duo from Portugal. Their award-winning release, Lisboa Mulata , features guest appearances by Marc Ribot, Camané and Sérgio Godinho and paints a melancholic picture of Lisbon in the past, the aesthetic worlds of design, art, and most of all, cinema.
