A Contemporary Vision of a Classical Tradition

A diverse printmaking exhibition by members of the Art Institute of Capilano University thatexplores a microcosm of dynamic changes occurring in international print culture, especially with regard to the digital revolution.

The exhibition includes a variety of printmaking processes- everything from the classical etching, relief and silkscreen to the more modern photo and digital work, often in combination with each other. Through these processes, the artists explore the surfaces and possibilities of scale, embossments, enamels, rare Japanese Gampi papers and metallic surfaces.

The exhibition will showcase diverse images and concepts- every thing from environmental issues, technology and the human condition to the creative act, music and ecology.

Bill Adams
2D – At the urging of his mother in 1975, Bill reluctantly picked up one of her brushes and began to paint a small picture on a small canvas board. Immediately he was hooked and that very day purchased everything required (he thought) to start painting. Since that time Bill’s artwork has grown in size and are now large, bold, acrylic landscapes and florals. A true realist painter, he have always been in high demand and he has known great success with his artwork both through artwork displayed in galleries and through many commissioned pieces. Denise Jeffrey
3D – Denise is a clay artist who studied ceramics at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Patterns found in nature inspire her work in cone six porcelain. Clay is thrown, some altered, many pieces are also composed of hand-built or slab-formed elements. Carving is a decoration element she uses widely in her work. She creates distinctive porcelain vases, tile wall hangings, bowls, mugs, wine carafes, cups and much more. She enjoys creating work that can be appreciated for its form, colour and feel but also used and enjoyed everyday around the home

On Monday February 13th the Granville Room welcomes the 2012 Tales of the Cocktail on Tour with a special Spirited Dinner that is set to explore the relationship between gin & tea in a variety of cocktails and punches, but also combine pacific-northwest cuisine with classic Japanese and Chinese culinary techniques and ingredients.

A variety comedy show consisting of sketch, stand-up and improv featuring some of the best comedy acts in Canada. Roman Danylo MC’s an evening that will showcase many types of comedy covering a wide range of topics with a little something for everyone.

Roman Danylo has appeared in several Canadian TV Series including CTV’s ‘Corner Gas’, CBC’s ‘Just For Laughs’ and ‘Made in Canada’. He also starred in ‘Comedy Inc.’, the long running sketch comedy series on CTV and Spike TV. In 2004 Roman won a Leo Award for his performance in CBC’s ‘Western Alienation Comedy Hour’.

Not Available in Canada consists of members of Canadian Content (winners of the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Sketch Group) and the stars of the CBC sketch comedy series ‘The 11th Hour’ (which The National Post called “The funniest sketch show since SCTV”). Having performed sold out shows in the US and overseas, Canada’s comedy dream team are back and looking forward to working with new material from ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Futurama’ comic books writer, Ian Boothby.

Stand-up comedian Toby Hargrave has performed at the Vancouver and Whistler Comedy Festivals, the Atomic Comedy Festival in Washington State and The Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal. He was voted the ‘Funniest Comedian in Vancouver’ at the 2005 Vancouver Comedy Festival, and has appeared at notable comedy clubs across North America including Yuk Yuks, The Laugh Shop, The Comedy Mix, The Improv, The Comedy Store, and The Laugh Factory.

It’s Good to Know People with Chris Wes and Bev PoCock (played by Jason Bryden and David Milchard) are Vancouver’s only People-Positive Musical Duo! They make people laugh without making fun. Get ready to love, laugh and learn with Chris and Bev. Performing all over the Pacific North West, ‘It’s Good to Know People’ has been featured on CBC Radio’s The Debaters, at Yuk Yuks and at the CanWest Comedy Festival.

The show finale will include all the acts participating in an epic improv jam. It will be a fast paced and completely spontaneous romp all based on audience suggestions.

Stewards of Children Training

Little Warriors, a national charitable organization that educates adults how to prevent child sexual abuse, is pleased to offer the revolutionary, research based Stewards of Children training in North Vancouver.
