Fashion’s Night OUT! Vancouver

In light of the recent and alarmingly numerous homophobic bullying-related suicides in North America, members of the Vancouver fashion industry are hoping to bring local awareness and a show of solidarity by holding a runway show and fundraiser for Out in Schools.

Out in Schools is an organization that is dedicated to working with schools to breakdown stereotypes about homosexuality, eliminate homophobia, and make schools a safe haven for youth by engaging students and faculty to rally around a relevant and important cause.

Research studies indicate that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth suicide attempts are four times that of heterosexual youth. There is not only a need, but a real demand for the program, stresses Ross Johnstone, Director of Youth Education at Out in Schools. “We get teachers and educators from all over the province requesting that we come to their schools to help implement our anti-bullying programs.”

The fundraiser, punningly titled Fashion’s Night OUT is the Vancouver fashion community’s response in fighting homophobia by raising funds and awareness for Out in Schools. The fashion and LGBT communities have long been strong supporters of each other, so the event collaboration was a natural fit.

Guests of Fashions Night OUT! will be treated to a one-off fashion show put on by The Hudson Bay Company’s celebrated and critically successful White Space in Yaletown’s V Lounge on March 8, 2011 along with a cocktail reception, stunning silent auction, live DJ, and exclusive gift bags. The event will include a fashion show and a short video presentation. Two hundred tickets will be sold with 100% of the proceeds going to Out in Schools.

Broadway Musical Legally Blonde Debut at Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver

VANCOUVER GOES BLONDE!

WILL DEBUT AT THE QUEEN ELIZABETH THEATRE IN VANCOUVER ON TUESDAY, MARCH 1, 2011

THE NATIONAL TOUR OF LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL will begin performances at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver on Tuesday, March 1 and will play through Sunday, March 6, 2011.

It’s the role that made Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon famous long before Paris Hilton started carrying around a little dog in her purse.

Sorority star Elle Woods doesn’t take “no” for an answer. So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone more “serious,” Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style.

In its first year on Broadway, LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL earned seven 2007 Tony Award nominations, ten 2007 Drama Desk Award Nominations, and a 2007 Outer Critics Circle Award.  The musical also ranked in the top ten list of the most requested Ticketmaster “Arts & Theatre Events” for 2007. LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL received three 2009 Touring Broadway Awards in New York City on May 4, 2009. The show won awards for Best New Musical, Best Production Design and Best Choreography of a Touring Production.

In the fall of 2007, MTV aired LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL in its entirety to stellar ratings and was subsequently nominated for two 2007-2008 Daytime Emmy Awards.

As on Broadway, Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell is the director and choreographer. Music and lyrics are by both Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, and the book is by Heather Hach.

LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL will take you from the sorority house to the halls of justice with Broadway’s brightest new heroine (and of course, her chihuahua, Bruiser). The verdict? This much fun shouldn’t be legal!

Show dates run Tuesday, March 1 through Sunday, March 6, 2011 with performances Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8pm, Sunday evening 7:30pm and Saturday and Sunday 2pm matinees.  Tickets vary in range depending on performance, seat location and date of purchase and start at $25.00 plus applicable fees.

TICKETS ON SALE, MONDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2010 AT 10AM at all Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone with 1-855-985-5000 and  HYPERLINK “http://www.ticketmaster.ca” www.ticketmaster.ca.  Groups tickets are available now to groups of 15 or more by calling 1-800-889-8457.  Special pricing for students, seniors and early bird bookings.

American Express® Cardmembers have access to some of the best seats in the house for all LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL performances. Advance tickets are available through Front Of The Line® by American Express November 22 – 28, 2010.

The Vancouver engagement of LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL is presented by Broadway Across Canada. Additional tour dates include December 28, 2010 – January 2, 2011 in Ottawa, February 15 – 20, 2011 in Calgary and February 22 -27 in Edmonton. For more information, visit  www.BroadwayAcrossCanada.ca.
